Introduction to Statistical Programming

Credit: 2 hours.

Statistical programming unlocks flexible analytical approaches in research. Taught through a series of examples in the agricultural and applied sciences, this course presents an introduction to R programming, including a basic syntax, recursive statements and functions, manipulating data structures, creating graphics, and translating mathematical models to code. Students are not required to have previous exposure to any programming language but will benefit from a background in foundational statistics and active engagement with research.

2 undergraduate hours. 2 graduate hours. Prerequisite: CPSC 241, or an equivalent introductory statistics course is recommended. Or, with permission of the instructor. Concurrent enrollment in CPSC 440 is not required but encouraged. Restricted to Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students.
