Archaeology of Time
Credit: 3 OR 4 hours.
In this class we examine concepts, methods, and techniques in study of archaeological temporalities and chronology building. Using case studies and examples from around the world, we examine some of the chief foci of the current literature, which includes time perspectivism, unit issues, radiocarbon dating, tree ring analysis, Bayesian statistics, geochronology, and seriation. Students gain an in depth understanding of issues and core concepts and a focused understanding of Bayesian analysis of radiocarbon dates.
