Cold Case Forensics Practicum
Section Info:
In this practicum, UIUC students will partner with Illinois State Police (ISP) and other investigative agencies to review active and unresolved cold cases. Students will work closely with UIUC instructors and investigative personnel to be trained on case file examinations, ultimately reviewing cases to identify new leads or forensic evidence testing opportunities. The work culminates in a solvability assessment presented to the investigative team to help prioritize investigative next steps. Work includes scheduled case-review sessions and significant student-led effort outside of the traditional classroom setting. Students are required to have a background check, sign a non-disclosure agreement, and will need to regularly travel off campus to work with case records. Course enrollment requires consent of the instructor. If interested in enrolling, complete the questionnaire - Admissions Survey ANTH 499: Cold Case Practicum - in order to be considered for instructor approval. Section Title:
Paleogenomics
Section Info:
Paleogenomics is the study of degraded DNA from biological materials from ancient times to learn about past species, environments and evolutionary processes. For a field of study less than fifty years old, it’s had a remarkable impact on scholarly interpretations of the past.
