Fundamentals of Improvisation: Jazz and Beyond

Credit: 2 hours.

This performance-based class introduces important basic tools of musical improvisation. Beginning with explorations of the mindset of the improviser in both solo and group class performances, the course will also introduce students to approaches to jazz playing in both modal and functional harmonic styles.

May be repeated in separate terms up to 4 hours.
