Foundations of Digital Info
Section Info:
Introduces students to the foundations of technologies behind digital information systems. Covers topics such as information representation and encoding, file formats, general computing architectures, XML and internet protocols. This course prepares students for work in digital preservation, data curation and digital humanities, and no programming experience is expected or required. The course teaches students the underlying concepts common to all computing systems and goes into more detail on commonly used digital formats and tools. All other students need department approval.
