Introduces the higher education environment in which academic librarians and other information professionals operate in order to prepare students for leadership roles both within academic libraries and in their parent institutions. This course explores academic librarianship through a variety of lenses including: history and organization of higher education; accreditation; characteristics of students; roles of faculty and other campus professionals; and current issues and challenges. Prerequisite: IS 510-Libraries Info and Society. In the last 15 years, an increasing number of social workers have partnered with public libraries to help address the psychosocial needs of patrons. Learn how social workers provide training to library staff on trauma informed principles, as well as boosting outreach programs to patrons. Library and social work students will gain awareness of the collaborative means the two professions seek social justice in the heart of urban, suburban, and rural communities in North America.
