Offers an advanced graduate survey of research in areas related to research in human-centered design and systems, across a wide range of topics. Designed to incorporate multiple guest lectures. Weekly class meetings will be composed of both lectures and discussions.

4 graduate hours. No professional credit. May be repeated in the same or separate terms, to a maximum of 16 hours, if topics vary.

Section Info:
Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have transformed how we interact with and use AI to make decisions. This course focuses on the human factors to consider when designing interactive intelligent systems that must be usable and beneficial, and respect human values. Topics include psychological impacts of AI, trust, privacy, AI biases and fairness, human-in-the-loop decision-making, and design guidelines. Through readings and projects, students will critically analyze existing AI systems with respect to their human impacts
