Course is for Information Science majors providing a more in-depth exploration, engagement, and development within the iSchool. The focus is on professional development and career exploration by connecting and engaging students with various speakers and concepts, and introducing them to different career pathways. Each session will have a different group of speakers, which may include: employers, recruiters, alumni, current students, faculty, and campus staff. Course is relevant for undergraduate students at all stages of their academic career. May be repeated (limit of 3 experiential hours count towards IS electives). Cyber risk, cybersecurity and associated terminologies are introduced and explained as a foundation for the exploration of how threat identification and threat intelligence are critical to organizational security postures. Students will be introduced to a variety of concepts including the value of system and information access and availability, risks and benefits of data collection and use, increased critical infrastructure and attack surface vulnerabilities, information sharing, standards and the legal backdrop and compliance requirements, information science related career opportunities and the role of human behavior and ethical considerations.
