This course gives students who’ve never completed a composition on a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) an opportunity to explore urban and popular music beatmaking (traditionally referred to as instrumental music composition) from a lens of analysis, creative, and technical understanding, and to apply that creative and technical understanding in producing original music. Students work directly with a music industry professional to produce original music of their own. This course is for beginning DAW users.

Introduction to career opportunities in collaborative piano related fields. Topics and genres covered include both instrumental and vocal repertoire: instrumental sonatas and concertos, art song, opera, music theater; 21st century music, popular music, early music/continuo; jazz, vocal coaching. Different approaches to wind, string, brass, vocal, opera, orchestra, choral repertoire and rehearsals will be discussed.
