Topic: African Arts and Architecture. This course examines some of Africa’s earliest rock arts, architectural forms, textiles, and more recent artistic expressions. We will particularly focus on how internal and external influences such as ancient Christianity, Islam and European colonialism shaped local aesthetic innovations. While showing these external influences, we will highlight Africa’s contribution to global modernist art such as cubism.
