Section Title:
Survey Research Methodology
Section Info:
Survey Research Methodology Fundamentals: Study Design and Instrument Development For students interested in survey study design and developing a survey instrument. Applies to action research, quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods. Will lead students through an understanding of best practices related to survey research methodology including study design and instrument development. Will provide a foundation in survey methods that will form future survey work. Students will design a survey study. Will explore the design issues associated with selecting and implementing a survey for primary data collection in research. Will cover major decisions and alternatives considered by a researcher who wants to design and implement a survey that will provide an accurate representation of the characteristics and behavior of a particular population. A working knowledge of research methods is essential as well as the ability to critically analyze existing research studies in order to improve upon them. The methods, strategies, and techniques learned in this course will apply to many disciplines (HDFS, public health, social work, education, business, social and human sciences). Important to remember that this course will provide a broad base of knowledge upon which students can grow through more advanced course work and internships. This section will be taught in-person.
