Topic: Abstraction and Empathy. In this seminar, we will reconsider one of the defining norms of modern art, abstraction. We will critically examine the narratives, rationales, and theoretical armatures that have historically supported abstraction, as well as attempting to recover the lost potentials of specific practices by engaging with critical frameworks such as affect theory, queer theory, critical race theory, and systems theory.
