Introduction to Game Theory
Section Info:
Game Theory is the study of interactions between people, corporations, institutions, or countries in which each player recognizes their strategic interdependence with the other players in the game. Game Theory examines the possible solutions to games in which the players are each acting in their own self-interest. This course will provide an introduction to the core concepts and solutions along with applications and insights. This course examines a variety of applications in economics and other social sciences. For example, there are applications to price competition, management-labor relations, political elections, international relations, military strategy, legal disputes, household decision-making, and sports contests. ***Course counts within the Global Markets and Society Minor (Global Studies). Course also counts as hours within the Economics Major (doesn't not fulfill a specific requirement). Please check with your advisor to see if the course will count within your curriculum.*** Pre-requisites: A basic course in Economics is recommended (eg. ECON 102, ECON 103, and/or credit for an ECON 1--)

Racial Disparity
Section Info:
This course covers topics on racial and ethnic disparities in the United States, past and present. The potential topics include employment, earnings, wealth, education, health, housing, migration, credit, entrepreneurship, and crime. The course examines the empirical evidence on the disparities, discusses the various hypotheses on the causes of the disparities, and examines the efficacy of various policies to narrow or eliminate the disparities. The course will mainly focus on racial disparities, but ethnic disparities will also be discussed. The textbook will be The Economics of Race in the United States, by Brendon O’Flaherty. This textbook is comprehensive on the topics, well-organized within each topic, detailed without being too technical, and objective without being afraid to state the findings of economic research.
