Section Info:
Both 2 credit and 4 credit students attend class for the full 16 week semester and have the same weekly reading assignments. Students complete about 5 informal online posts that analyze or reflect on week’s readings (completed on the weeks of their choice). Students who take the course for 2 credits give one short presentation on a book of their choice that relates to the week’s topic. Students who take the course for 4 credits complete a final project that is broken down into stages over the course of the semester. The final project is an online exhibit on children’s literature created with Omeka, a digital publishing tool commonly used by institutions to create exhibit websites that include metadata for the selected books or museum. (We may partner with a historical library, but this is still in negotiation.) Since 2 credit students are not doing this project, there will be weeks when class ends earlier for them, with the 4 credit students staying to work together on the class project. To reflect current events, readings this semester will include weeks on African American folklore, early texts for black children, and pandemic novels. The course moodle with readings listed will go live in about a week. Students are welcome to contact the instructor, Liz Hoiem at hoiem@illinois.edu for more information. Graduate student questions may be sent to ischool-advising@illinois.edu
Restriction(s):
Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
Restricted to students in the Information Sciences department.
