Section Info:
English 564 is devoted to scholarly and critical writing, most particularly preparing and publishing journal articles. The course will spend several weeks as a workshop in helping students transform either a seminar paper or a panel paper or a dissertation chapter into a publishable essay. So we will be concentrating on that process and its attendant challenges, although we will also consider, briefly, some professional writing for a broader audience. We will also learn about the publishing expectations that students face after grad school, including the converting a dissertation into a book, with a brief overview of how manuscripts get accepted (and why they may not). We will also discuss professional activities through which you can advance your writing. And we will spend some time learning about book reviewing too.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
