Beginning Sculpture

SHOW FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

Credit: 3 hours.

Introduction to basic concepts, processes, and materials in sculpture, with an emphasis on the relationship among these three aspects of producing works of art. Materials including wood, plaster, and clay will be used additively to fabricate, model and cast forms. Subtractive methods utilizing carving, and the making of meaning via materials, methods and context are also discussed. This course satisfies the 3D requirement in the Art Foundations curriculum.

A student registered in one or more Art & Design course(s) exhibiting this message, will be assessed a $95 facility use fee once each term.

In this adapted online course we will learn how to create our own visual language as we examine form, space, and content. Through the completion of three projects arcs comprised of skills building sub-projects, we will investigate and explore the uses of 3D processes and contemporary art practice for making work in situ with what is at hand. This class will be taught online, through asynchronous forums and Zoom meetings for discussions and critiques. Class will meet for discussions, critiques and one-on-one’s, through Zoom, during the original posted hours. All tools and materials will be sourced by students, anticipate $55-70 for supplies, lists and suppliers will be provided. Students will also source materials from your personal environments. You will need a platform for taking images and sharing work in class forums, in addition to internet access for our Zoom sessions.
