Section Title:
Playful By Design
Section Info:
This course is a collaboration between Siebel Center for Design and the Illinois Program for Research in Humanities (IPRH) supported research cluster Playful by Design. The course will introduce participants to design thinking, and aims to build design thinking competency through a sequence of project experiences arising from a deep consideration of play. Students will consider the philosophical, social, and relational dynamics of playfulness from multiple disciplinary angles: sociology, kinesiology, information science, political science, cognitive science, and education. In this immersive and experiential course, students will explore how playful approaches to design can encourage collaboration, problem- solving, communication, experimentation, and exploration of identities, all attributes that promote success in a rapidly-changing, information- based culture.
