Spring 2017. FR 324 Representations of France at War Across Media. What can art and news media tell us about the experience of war and the often controversial political and social aspects of warfare that historians cannot? How do different arts and media change the way readers or viewers engage with historical events such as WWII or the Algerian War? Through a selection of novels, comics, films, video games and interactive websites, students will study representations of French wars of the twenttieth century and acquire the analytical skills necessary to understand the stakes of their representation. Class discussion and readings in French.
