Reggio Emilia Study Abroad
Section Info:
The Reggio Emilia Study Abroad Trip, November 11-26, includes a one week workshop with Reggio Children at Centro Internationzionale Loris Malaguzzi — with local school visits — and a second week for connecting culture to pedagogy through experiences in Reggio Emilia, Parma, and Florence. The goal is to learn from the skilled teachers, pedagogistas, and atelieristas while also understanding how the manifestation of the philosophies of the Reggio Emilia Approach in the city’s municipal schools connect to northern Italian culture and, therefore, might be expressed differently in other contexts. Interested students should contact the instructor at ssmit37@illinois.edu This course will include six pre-travel meetings to prepare for both the pedagogical training and travel in Italy as well as debriefing meeting post trip. This is a 2 credit hour course.
