Provides for an introduction to the context, process(es), and product of classroom language acquisition; emphasis is placed upon research, research findings, and implications of research.

Same as EIL 580, FR 580, GER 580, ITAL 580, PORT 580, and SLS 580. Prerequisite: HUM 471 or equivalent, or consent of instructor.

Classroom Language Acquisition Research Some questions we will investigate include: ? Does (type of) instruction make a difference? ? Are all aspects of language teachable? ? Is earlier always better? ? Is second language acquisition different from heritage language acquisition? How or how not? In this course you will: ? Read primary literature (journal articles and refereed book chapters) on various strands of classroom language acquisition research ? Be part of a research apprenticeship, during which you will design your own classroom language acquisition research study
