Examines literature written for children ages birth-eight years, extensive reading and analysis of literature in all genres and formats; evaluations of literature in relation to cognitive and linguistic development, emergent literacy, linguistic and cultural diversity, and family and school literacy; reviews and applies theories about the functions of literature.
2 undergraduate hours. 2 graduate hours. Prerequisite: One college course in literature; admission to the Early Childhood Teacher Education Program.
