The course traces the birth and evolution of Rock and Pop music genres in relation to the development of the artist and trends in American popular music introduced throughout the latter half of the twentieth century. In addition, the course will require students to discuss and elaborate on the advancement of musical style and its relationship to the political and social landscape of twentieth century American pop culture. The course is designed for former mentors from the School of Music Mentoring program. These returning mentors serve as peer advisors to new mentors. Course content includes bi-weekly meetings with the assigned mentor, collaboratively planning and completing two community-based volunteer activities with the mentor and his/her mentee, and planning/attending cultural and social events with mentors and mentees. Enrolled students will also participate in one community-based volunteer event with all peer advisors, mentors, and mentees.
