Proseminar in Music

Credit: 0.5 TO 4 hours.

Special preparation in specialized fields of musicology, composition-theory, performance, and music education.

May be repeated to a maximum of 8 hours; undergraduate students in open studies may repeat the course unlimited times with approval of the open studies advisor. Prerequisite: Senior or graduate standing in music or music education; consent of instructor.

Students will study music/jazz publications/resources and books regarding the future of music to gain an insight into functioning in the ever-evolving business of music. Emphasis will also be placed on networking in the music business as a tool for promotion. This class will touch on such topics as publishing, artist management, marketing and entertainment distribution as well as exploring the 'celestial jukebox' and the ramifications for professional musicians and music students. Instructor approval required.
