Section Title:
Design of Game-Based Learning
Section Info:
Design of Game-Based Learning. Game-based learning (GBL) has become "serious" in recent years. Corporations, military, and education systems are beginning to embrace its power to enhance the intended learning experiences and performance transfer. The design of game-based learning, however, has intimidated many educators/trainers/instructors due to its inherent complexity. Consequently the integration of GBL is not as extensive as it should be. Furthermore, the demand on integrating "play" into "workplaces" is increasing among organizations. The talent to design such Game-based workplace environments, however, is lacking. To address those issues, this course will introduce and discuss basic GBL design principles in the beginning. Then the focus will shift to the design processes of GBL. Through collaborative design processes, students will develop first-hand experiences in designing GBL on the topics of their choices. Furthermore students will develop the capacity of evaluating GBL guided by educational or performance goals.
