This course is designed to help gain a general understanding of research methods in education, particularly research pertaining to P/K-20 education as well as educational leadership and policy. This course provides an introduction to theoretical and conceptual paradigms that inform the research process, methodology, and practice. Students will also engage in both readings and discussions regarding various quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches as well as data collection tools. Finally, students will use the aforementioned concepts and tools to 1) effectively critique and evaluate the research methods of a journal article, policy report, or dissertation; and 2) prepare a research proposal relating to educational research or policy analysis.
