Prerequisite: One year of art history or consent of instructor.

Section Info:
Studies the art and visual culture of the United States from nation formation to the World’s Columbian Exposition, and explores the various ways in which ideological positions achieved visual form within the context of democracy. Explores the cultural and aesthetic diversity of American art and looks closely, in sustained analyses, at a range of media, from painting and sculpture to furniture, magazine advertisements, and decorative arts.
