Topic: "Images of Abraham Lincoln's World: Then and Now The Spirit of Diversity" This hands-on course will use photography as the foundation to explore what it means to be American in the 21st century and what it meant in Lincoln's time. In order to better understand what it means to live in a diverse society we will examine our own beliefs and biases. We will explore how these attitudes shape our worldview and day-to-day interactions and explore evidence of contemporary attitudes of the 19th century. We will also use digital cameras to document how the area has changed, and how it has stayed the same. No prior photographic experience is needed and equipment will be provided. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course. Students who enroll in more than one may be dropped from the additional Discovery courses. For course descriptions, see the Discovery Program booklet.
