Topic: Television News Studio Production. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course. Students who enroll in more than one may be dropped from the additional Discovery courses. This course will teach students what goes on "behind the scenes" during a half-hour live local television newscast. Students will learn the theory behind, and receive hands-on instruction, operating a studio camera, lighting a television set, running a control room video switcher and audio board, and incorporating graphics and multiple playback sources into a broadcast. Once they master the fundamentals, students will serve as the production crew for UI-7 NEWS, a twice-weekly student-produced newscast of the Department of Journalism.
