Course introduces doctoral students to current mainstream theories (e.g., linguistic, psycholinguistic, cognitive, and social) used in SLA research. Emphasis is on gaining fundamental understanding of how theories work in SLA, how to evaluate them, and what they attempt to explain.

Same as CI 584, EALC 584, EIL 584, EPSY 563, FR 584, GER 584, ITAL 584, LING 584, PORT 584, and SLS 584. Prerequisite: EIL 489 or equivalent or consent of instructor.
