Topic: Nano-Photonics. Prerequisites: ECE 455 or equivalent and PHY 486 or ECE 487 or equivalent. Nanophotonics defined as the fusion between nanotechnology and photonics, is an emerging contemporary area of research with new applications. This course will examine the quantum mechanical interaction between light and matter, with a focus on the fundamentals of the optical properties of nanometer scale structures of semiconductors, metals, and composites. Nanoscale optical phenomena such as plasmonics, cavity electrodynamics, sub-wavelength gratings, and meta-materials will be examined.
