"Biotechnology and Food--Safety and Nutrition. 3H Foods derived through the application of biotechnology have been called everything from "designer foods" to Frankenfoods. Proponents have claimed that they improve farm profitability and productivity, can improve nutrition and health and benefit the environment. Critics charge that they will wreak untold environmental damage and are untested and unsafe to eat. This course describes what biotech foods are, how they are used, how safety is assessed and explores the basis of consumers' reactions to these new products.
