Intensive study of a period or school of opera composition or of a particular aspect of the history of opera. Wide reading in the social and intellectual climate of the period concerned; literary, dramatic, and musical analysis; and work with primary sources whenever possible.

(Summer session, 2 graduate hours). Prerequisite: MUS 528, graduate standing in musicology, or consent of instructor.
