Advanced application and examination of improvisational methods, device, and techniques. Study of advanced chord/scale relationships, modal harmonic concepts, harmonic analysis, patterns, and linear/vertical approaches to improvising, and various jazz song forms including advanced blues forms, asymmetrical standards, free improvisational forms, and advanced modal forms.

Prerequisite: MUS 460 or placement by exam with consent of instructor.
