Examines aspects of language use in contemporary Japanese society, including cross-cultural communication, social/regional variations, and problems surrounding linguistic/ethic minorities in Japanese society. Requires no knowledge of Japanese.

3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Approved for both letter and S/U grading. Prerequisite: Junior standing or consent of instructor.
