Introduction to the popular cultural traditions of China and Japan; examines popular morality, cosmology, religion, secret societies, the "way of the samurai," body and health (acupuncture, meditation, Zen, T'ai-chi chuan), aesthetics (poetry, painting, tea ceremony), and the world of the courtesan using a variety of documentary, fictional, and visual sources.
