(SPAN 271) Introduction to models of communication and communicative competence, contemporary approaches to language teaching, current research in second language acquisition, and issues and perspectives on languages testing. Includes twenty-four early field experiences in local schools.

Same as FR 471, GER 469, HUM 471, LAT 471, and RUSS 471. 4 undergraduate hours. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing and enrollment in a teacher education curriculum, or consent of instructor. Early field experiences require Illinois State criminal background check (see Council on Teacher Education for questions).

Includes 24 hours of early field experiences in area schools. Students must reserve one block of 4 consecutive hours each week between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mon-Thurs for field placement. Requires annual bloodborne pathogen training.
