(SPAN 140) Introduction to 'Las Americas hispanas' (Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean), their geography, cultures and language varieties. Taught entirely in Spanish, this course seeks to develop students' use of Spanish in an academic context.

Recommended for students who plan to major or minor in Spanish. Students may receive a total of 4 hours of credit for SPAN 140, SPAN 141, SPAN 142, and SPAN 143. Prerequisite: SPAN 103 or equivalent.

Spanish native speakers should enroll in SPAN 143. Credit will not be given for both SPAN 143 and SPAN 140.
