This course relates the structure and function of streams and rivers to challenges and opportunities in their conservation, management, and restoration using a combination of readings and class discussions. Students will develop an integrative understanding of stream and river ecosystem management from the site to watershed scale on issues spanning from nutrient pollution, to the natural flow regime, to the design and implementation of freshwater protected areas.
3 undergraduate hours. 3 graduate hours. Prerequisite: NRES 219 or similar introductory course in ecology.
