Section Info:
This course invites students to explore modern East Asian history and culture through the perspectives of underrepresented communities—disabled individuals, LGBTQ+ activists, Indigenous people, migrant laborers, and others whose stories are often absent from mainstream accounts of economic “miracles” and Cold War geopolitics. Instead of focusing solely on state actors, the course centers the lived experiences of those whose voices have been sidelined by imperialism, patriarchy, and systemic discrimination.
