Introduces students to the wide spectrum of qualitative and quantitative research techniques that are commonly used in the advertising industry. In addition to examining the principles, methods and techniques of advertising research, the course will address issues such as when research should and should not be conducted, analyzing data sets, forming meaningful research questions, figuring out how to answer the questions, and presenting the answers to these questions in a clear and compelling manner.

Prerequisite: STAT 100 or equivalent or ADV 200.

*Students must register for both the lecture and one discussion section. Due to preparation in their CS course sequence, students currently in the CS+ADV major ONLY may use completion of MATH 220/221 in place of statistics as the pre-requisite for this course. ADV majors must complete a statistics course and cannot substitute calculus as a pre-requisite to take ADV 281. Students who are planning to apply to transfer into Advertising for Spring 2026 will not be able to register for ADV 281 until they have been admitted into the major. There are NO exceptions. Spaces will likely be available in this course for admitted ICT transfers to register in January when admission notifications are sent out. Due to major and transfer demand, seats in ADV 281 will not open to campus in Spring 2026. This course will not likely open to Fall 2025 first-year majors. Day1Access course materials cost $80.89.
