Introduces diversity in the United States through a social work perspective. Examines how race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, ability, and other identities are socially constructed and shape experiences, access, and power across individual, interpersonal, and systemic levels. Students reflect on their own identities and biases, strengthen cultural humility, and apply learning to identify effective, equitable practices and opportunities for change.

Formerly SOCW 300. Credit is not given toward graduation for: Credit is not given for both SOCW 296 and SOCW 300.
