Topics covered will include precursors in cognitive and social psychology; issues of measurement; convergent and predictive validity; neural correlates; variability across individuals, places, and time; development over the lifespan; malleability and long-term change; computational approaches; competing theoretical perspectives; and major open questions and controversies. Students will be expected to read, synthesize, and critically evaluate relevant empirical and theoretical articles, lead class discussions, and submit a final paper proposing new original research on topics covered in the course.
