Literacies for Digital Life: Contemporary Media Literacy

Credit: 3 hours.

How do people's media practices shape social life? How do platforms mediate social interaction? Who has power in media systems? Through topics such as media representation, data practices, algorithmic infrastructures, misinformation, and AI systems, students explore the impact of digital media in contemporary society. Students develop their critical media literacy -- their ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and act -- through analytical and creative projects that empower themselves and others.
