- <strong>Thinking Geographically from Elsewheres<strong><br> In this course we will engage a number of key texts that allow us to converse from and with the elsewheres of geographical theory and praxis. Through this exercise, the course aims to weave together the constellations of knowledge that often inhabit the peripheries of theory to reposition them as today’s epicenters. This repositioning responds to calls and action from those peripheries themselves: to provincialize received universals; to decolonize the center; to world metropolitan knowledges with a pluriverse of possibilities, and to situate all knowledge production, acknowledging its somewheres and co-constructed nature. In approaching geographical (but not only!) concerns of space and society, we ask: What systems of knowledge and ways of thinking (thinking-feeling, feeling-acting) inhabit the other side of the abyssal line? How do these travel across and affix themselves to diverse territories? What are the conversations taking place within the global South and across the South-North divide? As we set out to engage these broad inquiries through an iterative, dialogic seminar, the course ultimately aims to, as Gloria Anzaldúa would have it, build these bridges as we walk.
