Introduction to graduate studies and/in the field of German Studies. We will discuss research methods, modes of scholarship, professional activities, and the graduate student experience. After delving into debates regarding the fields of Germanistik and German Studies in North America, we will investigate how debates in German Studies intersect with a number of theoretical frameworks such as Psychoanalysis, Feminism, Queer Studies, New Historicism, Cultural Studies, Postcolonial Theory, Race Studies, Environmental Humanities, Medical Humanities, and Public Humanities.
