Bibliography and methodology of the study of the Germanic languages and literatures, with particular regard to German literature and Germanic linguistics; introduction to scholarship in general and the German profession in particular, including the modes and methods of scholarly endeavor.

We will discuss research methods, modes of scholarship, professional activities, and the graduate student experience. After delving into debates regarding the fields of Germanistik and German Studies in North America, we will investigate how debates in German Studies intersect with a number of theoretical frameworks such as Psychoanalysis, Feminism, Queer Studies, New Historicism, Cultural Studies, Postcolonial Theory, Race Studies, Environmental Humanities, Medical Humanities, and Public Humanities.
