3 Credit Hours. Recommended: SOCW 200 Course Description: Examination of sexuality topics from social work perspectives, embracing sexuality as a human right using the reproductive justice framework. We will learn how to incorporate a sex-positive and strengths-based perspective with a focus on the application of social work skills, theories, and values to integrate sexuality into the practice of social work. Through themes of breaking silences of taboo topics, case scenarios within practice settings, and recognizing reproductive justice as a critical element of social justice, students will develop skills to engage clients more fully in relation to sexuality. Any remaining available seats will be released on November 20, 2024.

Section Info:
Hispanics constitute a growing population in the United States. The size and heterogeneity of Hispanics raise complex issues in crafting public policy and designing and delivering social services. This course offers an extensive portrait of Hispanics in the United States. Students will explore questions and demographic characteristics, language and religious practices, education, criminal justice, neighborhood and economic restructuring, immigration, social service systems, and community action in the context of creating an effective public policy agenda.
