Dancing Techniques Elective

SHOW FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

Credit: 1 hours.

An umbrella course for elective dancing techniques offered for dance majors. Courses are offered from a range of cultural origins and traditions, which may include techniques such as Ballet, Capoeira, Contemporary Modern, Hip Hop, House, Improvisation, Jazz, Tap, Umfundalai, West African, etc. Specific dance forms for each semester will be listed in the class schedule. These courses provide dance majors with a physical experience of various dance techniques and the cultural context of their creation and practice.

May be repeated. Prerequisite: For Dance majors only or consent of instructor. Non-dance majors admitted by audition on a space-available basis.

The emphasis will be placed on proper technique and application of basic principles of footwork, rise and fall, swing, sway, and contrary body movement. Everyone will be expected to dance both lead and follow roles. Prior knowledge of basic ballroom steps and techniques is a plus but not a requirement. Restricted to Dance majors.
