Credit: 2 hours.

An umbrella course for non-dance majors to explore all intermediate dancing technique courses offered in the department. Courses are offered from a range of cultural origins and traditions, which may include techniques such as Ballet, Capoeira, Contemporary Modern, Hip Hop, House, Improvisation, Jazz, Tap, Umfundalai, West African, etc. Specific dance forms for each semester will be listed in the class schedule. These courses provide students with prior study in the techniques, a physical experience of various dance techniques and an intermediate study of the cultural context of their creation and practice.

May be repeated. Prerequisite: Audition required during first two class sessions to remain enrolled in course. Restricted to non-dance majors.

Section Info:
This course begins with ballet basics; terminology; foundational movements, and ballet etiquette, with an intent to progress over the semester to take a full ballet class with work at a ballet barre and at the center of the room. This class will focus on training the body and muscles in turnout, ballet's relationship to classical music, and discussing ballet history and locality in comparison with current times. Recommended level: Beginning to intermediate. Not intended for Dance majors.

Dance II: Int. Ballroom
Section Info:
In the Intermediate/Advancecd Ballroom you will learn the patterns and technique of the American Smooth waltz and tango. The emphasis will be placed on proper technique and application of basic principles of footwork, rise and fall, swing, sway, and contrary body movement. Everyone will be expected to dance both lead and follow roles. Prior knowledge of basic ballroom steps and techniques is a plus but not a requirement. Not intended for Dance majors.
