Mass Timber
Section Info:
Some of the most amazing building designs over the centuries have incorporated exposed structure components as part of the architectural expression. This course will prepare architectural and engineering students to integrate exposed structure into their architectural designs. It will involve the study of key design parameters that lead to successful outcomes including understanding the relative strengths and weaknesses of concrete, timber and steel. A key focus will be the inclusion of mass timber elements in hybrid combination with concrete and steel. Course work will include numerous case history studies of prominent architectural structures and hands-on lab time building models of exposed structure.
