Section Info:
The Economics and Business of Sustainable Cocoa and Chocolate explores the economics and business of cocoa and chocolate with an emphasis on sustainability. How do global supply chains like cocoa and chocolate affect the environment and the welfare of workers and communities? How do companies that manufacture and sell chocolate to consumers ensure their supply chains are efficient and sustainable? What is the role for government regulation in this business? Do consumers care enough about sustainability to pay more for sustainably produced chocolate? The course will use movies, field trips, interviews with industry experts, readings, lectures, and student presentations to gain an understanding of sustainability in the context of cocoa and chocolate.
